A lot is changing over at Marvel Comics right now and that all has to do with their universe re-booting event, Secret Wars. However, fans can rest easy now as it was announced that Miles Morales will be back in his own book as Spider-Man later this year.
The book, appropriately titled Spider-Man, will have the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichell working on it when it hits the shelves, according to the New York Daily News.
“Many kids of color who when they were playing superheroes with their friends, their friends wouldn’t let them be Batman or Superman because they don’t look like those heroes but they could be Spider-Man because anyone could be under that mask. But now it’s true. It’s meant a great deal to a great many people,” Bendis said.
Morales is one of few superheroes to divert from the strong white male archetype that Bendis is referring to when talking about a Batman or a Superman. That is part of what has made the character so popular beyond the well received writing.
Fans of the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, need not worry though as he will be continuing on in The Amazing Spider-Man series after Secret Wars concludes as well.
“Our message has to be it’s not Spider-Man with an asterisk, it’s the real Spider-Man for kids of color, for adults of color and everybody else,” Bendis said.
No word on when exactly the new book will hit stands, but be on the lookout for the book this fall.
